Spring Cleaning, Anyone?

Hometown Property Management • Mar 04, 2019

Ah, Spring – that beautiful time of year when the days are warm, the nights are cold, rain falls, flowers bloom, and cleaning is definitely in the air.

As a property management company, we know exactly what it’s like to have to clean up a mess (both literally and figuratively), and while we’d love to tell you some of our horror stories, that’s a tale for an entirely different kind of blog. This post is meant to assist you in cleaning up the messes left behind from fall and winter and getting rid of the old and starting fresh. Spring cleaning is also about tackling those areas that you may not think about on a day to day basis. Use the five tips below to ensure that as the days become warmer and brighter, so does your home!

  • Use a Pillowcase to Dust a Ceiling Fan

A ceiling fan will collect more dust than you would think. Most don’t deem it necessary to clean it off – you can’t even see the mess so who’s it hurting, right? Wrong. Think of that dust and dirt being spread across the room as your fan spins round and round; it’s a seemingly invisible mess that you’re inhaling. So, here’s a quick and budget friendly way to ensure the air in your home is just that much more fresh! While carefully sliding an old pillowcase across the fan’s blade, the dust will not only wipe away but fall into the pillowcase instead of onto the floor.

  • Clean and Disinfect Your Microwave with Water and Lemons

If you’re like us, you know that a dirty microwave with dried up food and liquid is a pain to clean out. Sometimes, scrubbing your way through the stains just won’t cut it. Not to mention, you’re putting chemicals where your food goes! A great alternative to chemical cleaning and scrubbing is to cut up 3-5 lemons and put them in a large bowl with water. The acid from the lemons will disinfect the microwave and the steam will loosen those tough, sticky particles making it easier to wipe away last night’s leftovers!

  • Clean a Shower Head with a Bag of Vinegar

It’s one thing to get all the soap scum out of your shower/bath. It’s a whole other thing to get dirt and grime off of your shower head. With a ton of tiny water pickets in your way, it can prove as quite the daunting task. An easy way to get rid the unwanted mess is to tie a small bag filled with white vinegar around the shower head. After letting it sit overnight, you should have a brand new looking shower head!

  • Organize Your Fridge with Bins

Not only is this a great way to keep track of the food you have/need, it’s also a smart and easy way to keep your refrigerator clean! Next to cleaning a dirty microwave, climbing inside a fridge and scrubbing away at food stains is a job desired by no one. With bins, you can easily take each individual one out and wash it in the sink or dishwasher. Easy peasy!

  • Declutter, Declutter, Declutter!

Spring is the time to start fresh, it’s a new you ready to crawl out of your winter cave and take on the sunshine with newfound vigor. What better way to begin than by letting go of everything that held you back? We’re talking clothing, food, furniture, people, you name it! Find out what you need and what’s best for you –  it’s okay to be a little selfish sometimes. Once you get rid of all of that unnecessary clutter, get organized. A messy home hints at a messy mind. Stay focused and stay clean!

Remember, the objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment. Happy Spring!
